Packing the right gear for a high fence deer hunt ensures a safer, more enjoyable, and more successful experience. At Triple Hollow, we recommend bringing layered clothing, scent control items, reliable optics, and a well-sighted rifle to get the most from your Alabama hunt.
Whether you're heading out for your first high fence hunt or you’re a seasoned hunter visiting a new preserve, preparation starts with what you bring. At Triple Hollow, we provide comfortable lodging and expert guidance, but showing up with the right personal gear helps you get the most out of your time in the field.
Must-Have Items for Your Hunt
1. Valid Hunting License and Tags Even for a private preserve hunt in Alabama, you’ll need to follow state regulations. Be sure to bring a valid Alabama hunting license and any required documentation.
2. Clothing for Changing Weather Alabama weather can shift quickly, especially during deer season. Bring layers:
Moisture-wicking base layer
Insulating mid-layer (fleece or wool)
Waterproof outer shell. Neutral, earth-toned colors are best for blending into the surroundings.
3. Scent Control Essentials Whitetails have a powerful sense of smell. We recommend:
Scent-free detergent for clothing
Body wash and shampoo
Field spray or ozone gear if you use it, Keeping your scent profile low gives you an edge.
4. Quality Optics A good pair of binoculars makes all the difference when glassing from a stand or scanning a tree line. Triple Hollow’s terrain is dense but open enough to spot deer with the right equipment.
5. Firearm or Bow (and Ammo/Arrows) Bring your preferred weapon, properly sighted and calibrated. For firearm hunters, we suggest a .270 or .30-06 as reliable calibers. Archery hunters should pack extra broadheads and strings just in case.
6. Safety Harness (for Tree Stands) We prioritize safety on all hunts. If your guided hunt includes time in a tree stand, a safety harness is essential.
7. Day Pack with Essentials Pack light but smart:
Water bottle
Snacks or energy bars
Knife or multi-tool
Small flashlight or headlamp
Hand warmers
Rangefinder
Phone or GPS
Bonus: Cooler for Transporting Meat or Trophy If you plan to take home meat or a mount, bring a cooler large enough to store your harvest. We can help with field dressing and packing.
What You Don’t Need to Worry About We provide the lodging, meals, blinds, stands, and full guide support. You can travel light when you know you’re hunting with professionals.
